Elements of Art Cube
What we did for this project was learn about all the different elements of art. We made sketches of each element and had them revised to make a cube with the elements of art.
Process
What we first did was have a mini lesson about each element of art before we got to start drawing sketches. In these lessons my teacher explained to us what the element was. He then drew some examples on the whiteboard to give us an idea of what he was talking about. After the lesson we got to draw our first sketch. Our teacher gave us 7 minutes to sketch our first idea of that element of art. I had a little trouble coming up with an idea for some of my sketches because I didn’t know what to do and there was so little time to come up with an idea and also draw it. After our 7 minutes that we had to sketch your drawing my teacher showed us famous artist paintings and showed us the places where that element was used. After that we traded our drawing with a student in our class to critique it and give us feedback. We had 5 minutes to critique the other person's drawing and we had to critique it in a specific way. We first had to write what we liked and then what they should improve on and then another thing we like about it. After we got our papers back with feedback on it we had the option to improve from our previous sketch or just do a whole new drawing. For our first revision on our draft we had 10 minutes to do a new one. After we finished that we got it critiqued from a different person and then we started our second revision. Our second revision was also our last revision in our packet and we had 13 minutes to do this one. After that we got it critiqued again but this time we critiqued our own drawing. After we finished all of our sketches we got a piece of cardstock paper with an outline of a cube and we drew our final draft for each element of art.
What I learned
What I learned from this project is what the elements of art are. The elements of art are line, shape, space, form, color, texture, and value. I think that it is important that I learned what the elements of art are and what each one means. I think knowing the elements of art will end up helping me in this class and in the future. What I learned about giving feedback is that you should be specific when critiquing someone's work because it will help them more than just saying you think there drawing is cool. I also learned to take time to find things you like about it or things you think the person should improve on. I also learned that you shouldn’t ignore people's feedback because it could be very helpful to make your work better. What I learned about revision is that your first draft isn’t going to be perfect and you're going to need to improve it. I also learned that there is also room for improvement. For example, I had to redo one of my final draft drawings and it was frustrating having to do it all over again but in the end it turned out better than the one I did before. I learned that the process of revision takes a little while even though you only had it critiqued 3 times because then you have to redo the whole thing again even if it's a simple change like making the lines neater or shading it in better.
