Dear Future President Draft #1
Women make 21% less than men. Women would have to work for a few extra months to make the same amount as men. In The Declaration of Independence it states “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” How well does America follow this? What does your gender have to do with the amount your paid? The pay gap between men and women is a very important topic because it’s not fair that women get payed less than men. Is this the America you want to live in? A place where women aren’t valued the same as men. Is this something to be proud of? This is a serious issue going on in the whole world not just America and something needs to be done about it.
A white female makes 21% less than a white male and a Hispanic/Latina women makes 54% less than a white male. How is this equal? What does race have to do with any of this?
When people say that women just choose the wrong jobs or don’t study hard enough they’re furthering the problem and blaming women for a problem they didn’t create. This still doesn’t make sense because if a man and a women have the exact same job with the same level of education the man still gets payed more. This has nothing to do with how much they studied or what job they chose.
As a Hispanic women it saddens me to see that we aren’t seen the same as a white female or a white male. The fact that I have to work almost twice as hard as men is not right and not okay. I deserve to be treated the same as everyone else, peoples perception on females need to change. There was a study in 2011 where the Georgetown’s center on education found “Men with some college but no degree earn about the same as women with a Bachelor’s degree.” People don’t think this pay gap is real but people need to open their eyes and see that this is a real thing and that it is happening.
Equality is key for making a perfect society and closing the pay gap is an important topic that will help us get one step closer to equality. There should be a law where women and men get equal pay. A way that you can start to close the pay gap is small businesses owners deciding to pay men and women the same. I hope that in the near future we close this pay gap because I don’t want my children to grow up in a society where women aren’t valued the same as men. Women got equal rights almost a hundred years ago, this pay gap should've been closed a long time ago.

Women make 21% less than men. Women would have to work for a few extra months to make the same amount as men. In The Declaration of Independence it states “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”America does not follow this at all. Your gender shouldn’t have to depend on how much you make. The pay gap between men and women is a very important topic because it’s not fair that women get payed less than men. This is not the America I thought. A place where women aren’t valued the same as men is not a place I want to live in. This is not something to be proud of. This is a serious issue going on in the whole world not just America and something needs to be done about it.
Catherine Hill states “A white female makes 21% less than a white male and a Hispanic/Latina women makes 54% less than a white male.” This is not equal. Race shouldn’t have anything to do with this. There was a study in 2011 where the Georgetown’s center on education found “Men with some college but no degree earn about the same as women with a Bachelor’s degree.” This is already sad enough but as a Hispanic women it saddens me to see that we aren’t seen the same as a white female or a white male. The fact that I have to work almost twice as hard as men is not right. I deserve to be treated the same as everyone else, peoples perception on females need to change. Dear Future President Final Draft

In The Declaration of Independence it states “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”America does not follow this at all. Paragraph:
Women get paid 79 cents for every dollar a man makes. That's a 21% difference. Why is it that women get paid less than men when they do the same amount of work as them? How is this even fair? It contradicts The Declaration of Independence. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.” How is this pay gap equal? The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal. If you think this isn’t fair enough, the pay gap between Hispanic/Latina women and a white male is even worse. Hispanic/Latina women make 54% less than a white male. White males make almost double the amount Hispanic women make. What does race have to do with anything? The color of your skin shouldn’t matter. It shouldn’t have anything to do with it. Women vote, pay the same amount of money for things, and work but they still get payed less than men.
