How has this experience (the externship) made you consider your college or career path? In other words: Is your experience something you would like to continue exploring or has this experience turned you off from pursuing this field of study or career path..? I don't think this internship made me realize my career path but it was nice to know that my mentor went from being a lawyer to taking the risk and becoming a business owner for ceramics. My mentor followed her dreams.
The main skill that we learned in high school was project based learning. With project based learning there comes hands on projects and group working. That is exactly what I did at externship. We built a paint case out of cardboard with each other and that is similar to what we do at school. We work in groups and we do hands on work. High Tech High has helped me to work in groups with other people. It has also taught me to be creative and do projects like the paint shelf.
In the first clip you will see the poster that we made for Fathers Day. This was one of the first things we made because it had to be done before Fathers day so we could advertise. In the second clip you can see me cutting holes in the cardboard. The reason why I did this was to make a thing to organize the paint. We measured out each whole and piece of cardboard so they are all the same size. Then I got a cardboard cutter knife and cut the holes out. In the third clip I am gluing the finished cardboards with the holes cut out together. We decided to have three on top of each other to make it bigger
Our internship mentor, Caroline, did not want to be on film so we did a voice recording of our interview.
It is the first week of externship and I am doing my externship at Claytime Ceramics! I am doing this internship with my friends and I and what we will be doing here is greeting people, helping them, cleaning, and organizing the shop. I am excited to be in a chill environment and be surround by cool art. I am nervous about breaking something because there are so many ceramics all over the place. What I learned so far is the process that it takes to make a ceramic. You have to first pick out an already made ceramic or you can make your own on the pottery wheel. After it is dry you have to paint it and after that is dry you have to put glaze all over it. Then you put it into kiln and your ceramic will turn out shiny and nice. |
